The Los Angeles Black Business Expo’s (BBX) 20th Anniversary Reunion has been re-scheduled for May 1–3 at the Los Angeles Convention Center’s Tom Bradley (South) Hall, according to Harold Hambrick, BBX President.
Originally scheduled for September 5–7, the new dates “provide additional time to implement our new BBX branding strategy and an opportunity to pursue some of the new trends and practices beneficial for African American businesses.” Hambrick said.
“We plan to continue collaborating with businesses and organizations on new BBX-themed events of
particular relevance to consumers in our community, especially in light of the current economy.
“BBX, California’s largest indoor Black Family Reunion, promises to add a new look to its signature events, which include the Tom Bradley Business Institute, the Tastin’ Black Culture Food Court, West Coast Black Music Festival, West Coast GospeLive, Kids World, the Health, Sports and Fitness Pavilion, Black Writers On Tour, the Hair Show and Auto Land.
The Los Angeles Black Business Expo was founded in 1989 by Barbara Lindsey. The first Expo was held in a hotel ballroom and 1200 attendees responded. The next year the Expo was moved to the Los Angeles Convention Center where it has grown from the West Hall to the brand new Tom Bradley (South) Hall and attracted tens of thousands of attendees.
Harold Hambrick furthered the goals of the business community and urged the corporation he worked for to take on the Expo. When that business ended, he took over the Expo himself and now serves as its president. Luminaries from California’s governors, mayors, actors, authors and athletes have attended the Expo along with everyday consumers to help grow local businesses. Open to everyone, the Expo is designed to showcase businesses owned, operated and designed for African Americans—a very profitable market. With the help of exhibitor and sponsor fees and as well as entrance fees, BBX has been able to attract people from near and far.
