From the Globe News Desk --

Congresswoman Barbara Lee (D-Calif.) hosted a bus tour on Monday to highlight local agencies and organizations that have received federal stimulus funds. Funds have been used for projects on public safety, economic development, workforce training and public infrastructure.

The bus departed from the Ronald V. Dellums Federal Building and stopped at the Oakland Museum of California, La Clinica de La Raza’s San Antonio Health Center, Castro Valley Library, Stanton Elementary School, Ashby BART station and Emery Secondary School Gymnasium.

Lee was joined on the tour by various elected officials and institutional and community leaders. She hosted a press conference at the Oakland Museum of California, where she was joined by Lori Fogarty of the Oakland Museum; Kabir Hypolite, director of the Alameda County Office of AIDS; Chancellor Elihu Harris of the Peralta Community College District; and George Lozano, executive director of Covenant House California.

As a member of the Appropriations Committee, Lee worked to secure $18.1 million in fiscal year 2010 appropriations funding for various institutions and agencies throughout the ninth congressional district.

Lee, who serves as chair of the Congressional Black Caucus, also worked to direct over $600 million in American Recovery and Reinvestment Act funds to communities and organizations throughout her district, which includes Oakland, Berkeley, Emeryville, Castro Valley and other areas of the East Bay.

The tour was conducted on a zero-emissions hydrogen fuel bus provided by AC Transit.

Three hydrogen fuel buses were purchased with $7.4 million in federal funding that Lee worked to secure.
