From the Globe News Desk --

The city of Berkeley held a swearing-in ceremony for newly appointed Police Chief Michael Meehan on Thursday at the Freight & Salvage Coffeehouse. City Clerk Deanna Despain administered the oath of office.

Meehan was chosen for the position after an extensive nationwide recruitment and interview process. He was formerly a police captain with the Seattle Police Department, where he served for more than 23 years.

The Berkeley City Council unanimously approved his selection during their Nov. 10, 2009 council meeting.
