(OPINION EDITORIAL)
By Les Kimber --
Fresno, CA — Rush Limbaugh, Sean Hannity, Mark Levine, Glenn Beck, Inga Barr and Bill O'Reilly all have two things in common. Number one, they spend most of their time on the air demonizing the President of the United States, Barack Obama, and number two, they are all brought to us courtesy of FOX News and local KMJ Radio.
Twenty-four hours a day and seven days a week the message is always the same — President Obama and the Democrats are destroying the country; Obama is a radical socialist; Obama is not a citizen of this country; Obama is a Muslim; Obama is in over his head; he is na•ve and too inexperienced; Obama thinks he is a God and a dictator — the beat goes on, day after day, to the point where the ditto-heads and followers of these hatemongers call in to radio shows voicing their fears for their safety and bemoaning the total destruction of America "as we have known it."
They are encouraged to protest the Obama administration by going to "Tea Parties," implying that the violent overthrow of the U.S. Government is the only way to "save our country."
And it gets worse.
In one discussion, a caller to the Inga Bar show suggested that someone should put a bullet in his head when referring to President Obama. Both Limbaugh and Hannity openly question Obama's patriotism, constantly accusing him of being a liar and a radical left-winger who is committed to destroying the capitalist free-market system and turning this country into a "third-world socialist regime."
It is unclear the intent of these messages for Obama, but the reality is that they have created an atmosphere that will inevitably result in some of their followers carrying out their suggestions to stop Obama from destroying "our country" by any means necessary.
As recent events have proven, there are those who are so impressed by the negative rhetoric espoused by these individuals that they are willing to take up arms and kill the so-called enemies of the United States of America.
In their attempts to show that their criticisms of President Barack Obama has no racial overtones they often invoke the name of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.
The truth of the matter, however, is that Dr. King was exposed to the same kind of demonization by his critics as President Obama's critics are doing today. Dr. King was accused of being a communist, anti-American, and that he was committed to destroying "the American way of life." Dr. King's critics created an atmosphere of hate that convinced James Earl Ray he would be doing the country a favor by assassinating Dr. King.
Limbaugh's constant referral to President Obama as a "man-child" and an idiot shows no respect for Obama as a hsband and father, let alone as President of the United States and leader of the free world, and his recent statement that Obama and God have one thing in common — "God doesn't have a birth certificate either" — adds fuel to the fire of belief that Obama is not an American citizen, and thus, renders his presidency illegal.
Hannity's constant reference to Obama as "the anointed one" is not only disrespectful to Obama, but is a sad commentary on his self-proclaimed Christianity. Someone should inform him that the DNA of Christianity is love, not hate.
The constant one-sided programming of FOX News and KMJ Radio is the best argument for the Federal Communication Commission to restore the Fairness Doctrine so that Valley listeners can hear the rest of the story.
When future historians ponder this period in American history they may well discover that what is really at the core of the constant demonization of President Barack Obama is the realization by Limbaugh, Hannity and their cohorts is that the election of President Barack Obama is the beginning of the end of white male dominance of our government and its institutions.
